Counselling
Life is full of rough spots, and points of beauty in our journey. I help you through the tough spots so you can enjoy the beauty of life.
Childhood anxiety
Anxiety is the most common mental health concern I see in children, and helping kids find freedom from it is a big part of my work.
I work from a strengths-based approach. With your child, and with you as their parent, I look for the feelings and “triggers” behind the anxiety, and we build what they need to get past it.
Childhood trauma and attachment
Childhood trauma and attachment are my specialty. I’m a foster mom myself, so I know the questions, and the love, that come with caring for a child who has been through a lot.
In our sessions I help children feel safe, and help the adults around them understand what the child is carrying and how to respond.
Marriage counselling
Every marriage hits rough spots. I help couples slow down, really hear each other, and find a way forward together.
Individual therapy
We meet one-on-one, about whatever is weighing on you: stress, worry, grief or a season of change. Together we work out what will help, at your pace.
Farmers and farm families
Farmers, ranchers and rural families carry their own pressures: weather and markets, family and finances, and the demands of the farm. Too often counsellors don’t understand that way of life, and people stop going.
My husband and I raise sheep in southwestern Ontario, and I co-founded the National Farmer Mental Health Alliance to train therapists in agricultural life.
How sessions work
Get in touch
Call, email or send me a message, and tell me a little about what’s bringing you in. I’ll get back to you about a first appointment.
Where we meet
Most sessions are at my office in the country near Courtright: outside when the weather’s good, or in a small cabin by the pond. We can also meet online.
At your pace
Together we set goals that matter to you, building on the strengths you already have.
Questions
What happens at the first appointment?
It’s a chance to tell me what’s going on and what you’d like to be different. We’ll go over how sessions work, confidentiality, and fees, and you can ask me anything. You don’t need to prepare.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a few exceptions the law requires: if someone is at serious risk of harm, if a child may need protection, or if a court orders it. I’ll explain these at our first appointment, and the privacy page has more.
Is counselling covered by my benefits?
I’m a Registered Social Worker, and many extended health plans cover counselling by an RSW. Check with your plan to see what yours includes, and ask me about current fees when you get in touch.
Do you see clients outside Lambton County?
Yes. Online sessions mean distance doesn’t have to be a barrier.
